With views stretching across Midmar Dam, in the midlands region of Kwazulu Natal, you can find these three beautiful guesthouses, Hillhouse, Forest House and Lakehouse where you can escape out to the hills for some salvation.
The 70 hectare farm, Hillhouse was a modest shed, which has since morphed into the modern house it is today. Accommodating up to a dozen guests, it lends itself to both family and friend getaways, and the raw steel fireplace, is sure to be a focal point around which winter guests gravitate, fueled by conversation, great wine, and board games. The scale and light at play in the space is wonderful.
Foresthouse, 600 meters from Hillhouse, was built from the ground up and boasts a number of recycled elements – from Rhodesian teak parquet flooring, to the doors, frames and windows. Also sleeping twelve, the house is ideal to hire out in conjunction with Hillhouse for larger events.
Lakehouse, with a wrap around veranda and views over the valley has two bedrooms – perfect for couples or families. The lawn looks good enough to roll around on, or throw down a picnic blanket and take in the fresh air and wide, wide, open spaces.
The buildings have unusual proportions and are visually out of the norm. We hope that you will have a little adventure – something different from what you would expect of a country get away.
100% cotton towels and bedding are provided in all 3 houses, as well as fully equipped kitchens, braai facilities, and wood for the open fireplaces in each house.
